INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Measure an area 10 ft (3m) x 13 ft (4m) and mark with stakes and pegs.

2. Working so that your uprights will not extend beyond this area, dig four foundation footings 12 inches (300mm) x 12 inches (300mm) x 12 inches (300mm).

3. Assemble the uprights by nailing (with 3 inches (75mm) nails) three 8 inches (200mm) blocks of wood between two 5"76 inch (144mm) x 1"76 inch (44mm) lengths of wood.

4. Drill holes in uprights in the appropriate places using an "-32 inch (8mm) wood drill bit. Bolt to the metal plates, ensuring the uprights are vertical.

5. Assemble the roof structure by first bolting the two 13 ft (4m) planks between uprights and along the sides of the structure. Ensure that the uprights remain vertical and the planks level.

6. Using the brackets for support, screw these beams into place, making sure they are evenly spaced.

7. Using the half rounds to secure the shadecltoh, stretch taut along one length of the pergola and then pull it taut across the structure. Continue to secure with half rounds along every beam.
